BIKE - RAFT - SAFARI (14 DAYS)

BIKING

The Kathmandu valley offers some of Nepal’s best mountain biking. We stay at five out of the six best outlooks for viewing the mighty Himalaya, from Dhaulagiri in the west to Everest in the east, so you will not miss what is arguably the world’s finest mountain scenery. In addition, the valley is also the historic center of Nepal, the place where palaces and temples were built and rebuilt and Nepalese art and culture were developed and refined. A combination of superb dirt trails and single track connect the abundance of temples, monasteries and palaces making this both an exhilarating and fascinating place to cycle. This is a fun but challenging trip, suitable for those with off-road biking experience, as some trails are technical and there are some long climbs rewarded by even bigger descents.

Day01:After arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to hotel in Thamel, the touristy city Of Kathmandu. Thamel is busy, full of restaurants, cafes and shops. In the afternoon, we sort out the bikes and over dinner, there will be a tour briefing's/N Guest House

Day 02:  We leave Katmandu after breakfast through the bustling back streets of Thamel and on to good wide undulating jeep track and single track and pass through the Queen forest to the Buddhanilkantha, (Sleeping Vishnu) a remarkable 5th century statue of the Lord Vishnu, reclining on the coil of the snake king in the middle of small pond. Your efforts are rewarded by spectacular panoramic mountain views of Ganesh and Langtang Himals on the way and moreover by a night at a true resort established in a rural setting with culturally rich and naturally pristine environment whose garden harbors nearly 75 species of birds and 2000 flowering trees and shrubs. 53 kmO/N Resort.

Day 03:  We start with a steep upward ride (approx 7 km) on paved and off road through the Shivapuri Reserve. Part of the route is on the Helambu trekking trail. Our final destination is Chisopani (which means cold water in Nepali), which rounds off a challenging day. Again today’s lodge enjoys outstanding and closest views of the panoramic mountain ranges- this is one of the best outlooks within the valley region.   40 kmO/N Tea House/ lodge

Day 04:  We ride down from Chisopani into the NE corner of the KTM valley, then it’s on to a mix of single and jeep track to wind our way to Nagarkot, our route will depend on the condition of the trails.  A short steep climb into Nagarkot will reward you with a comfortable and peaceful surrounding of hotel on the valley rim. A part of the biking movie ‘Retread’ was filmed on this section. Ride 25km or 35km. O/N Hotel

Day 05:  Early morning farm activity awake us and we can enjoy the sunrise views from the terrace. Today we explore the trails around Nagarkot or you can take a rest day. There are numerous off-road routes possible today either road, or wide dirt and single track. We have a choice of day rides ending at the medieval town of Bhaktapur for lunch then time to look around before transfer back up the hill to Nagarkot, or ride up the road if you wish.  Bhaktapur is an old restored city full of temples and courtyards. In addition, it’s possible to visit Changu Narayan, a must for those interested in culture – the ancient temple complex here, which includes the oldest Hindu temple in the valley where in the sixth & seventh centuries, Newari stone masons made cravings of Lord Vishnu. The stone tablet standing on the west side of the temple is said to be the earliest known inscription in Kathmandu Valley. It depicts King Mandev’s military conquests in the fifth century. It’s on the way and enjoys commanding views over the valley and its fine statues are the best outside the National Museum. O/N Hotel

Day 06: The day starts with an exciting descent on Jeep tracks. We pass through many rustic villages, Himalayas in the right on clear day! We reach the beautiful ancient village of Shanku. From here we are on tarmac road towards Boudhanath Stupa (the largest stupa in Nepal), here we will have lunch and then ride back to Kathmandu via Tokha village and Kopan Monastery it’s 3 hours ride through some beautiful villages, field and temples.(34 - 40km with 650 m. descent)

RAFTING

Summary:

According to Legend somewhere high in the Himalaya of Gosainkund region where Lord Shiva is said to reside. He drove his Trident (Trisul) into the ground to create three springs hence it is named Trisuli. Despite lacking in technicality and scenery it is still the most famous and well-known river in Nepal. This is because the river runs along the Prithivi high way that enables one to go to other parts of the country and to India. There still is one section of the river that does not meet the road and this is the section where one can enjoy the scenic view of the gorge.

Day 07: We leave early in the morning to our destination of the starting point of our rafting adventure. After our usual briefing and the formalities we head straight into grade 3 rapids like Snell’s Nose, Monkey, Teen Devi (Three Goddess) etc. We will reach our campsite at Charoudi after 3 to 4 hours of paddling workout. Relax, lounge around the sandy beach and enjoy the calm and serene atmosphere. Get ready for a treat as our guides pride themselves on being the best cooks in the business. After dinner, you can unwind and reflect on the day’s rafting and begin to look forward to tomorrow’s adventure where we will be splashing our way down the river once again. O/N CAMP

Day 08: After a hearty breakfast, we get ready by doing some stretches to help make our muscles flexible. Today we will come across one of the most technical rapid in Trisuli called Upset, followed by Surprise, and feel its power of grade 4 rapid. We will come to our campsite in Kuringhat and meet up with some of the village children and people where they come to investigate. They are just curious to see foreign people. You can try your communicating skills to try and interact with the locals. After dinner and as we head to bed with the anticipation of tomorrow is rafting in mind. O/N CAMP

Day 09: Waking up to a hot breakfast for our third and final day of rafting. This will be an interesting day as we raft down the Trisuli passing under the cable cars that take worshippers up to the temple of Manakamana where it is believed that one will be granted with whatever one’s heart desires. Splashing our way down to Mugling which is a busy little town where people stop to have meals and refreshments as for the villagers it is a place for trading and also where the highway breaks into two, one leading to the flat part of Nepal and to India and the other taking you higher to Pokhara where it is the starting point of most treks. We finally come to our take out point at Gai Ghat. O/N LODGE
